Privacy Policy

MagellanX (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is operated by Hobbify. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the MagellanX Explorer and MagellanX Guide mobile applications.

Information We Collect

Account information — When you sign up, we collect your name, email address, and profile photo. Guides also provide a city/state location and zip code for rate calculation.

Location data — When you begin an active trip, both Explorer and Guide apps collect GPS coordinates and transmit them to the other party approximately every 10 seconds. Location is only collected while a trip is actively in progress. We do not collect location data in the background or outside of active trips.

Payment information — Explorer users provide a payment card at signup via Stripe’s secure card entry. We never store card numbers, CVV, or full card data on our servers. Stripe stores and processes all payment information under their own PCI-compliant infrastructure. We store only a Stripe Customer ID and PaymentMethod token.

Usage analytics — We use Firebase Analytics (Google) to collect anonymous usage data including app opens, session duration, and screen views. This data is used to improve the app experience. No personally identifiable information is linked to analytics events.

Trip data — We collect records of trip requests, bookings, route information, ratings, and reviews to operate the platform and resolve disputes.

Device information — We generate an anonymous device ID at first app install (stored locally) and log app version and platform for diagnostics. We do not collect IMEI, IDFA, or other hardware identifiers.

How We Use Your Information

• To match Explorers with available Guides and facilitate trips
• To process payments and payouts via Stripe
• To provide in-trip GPS tracking to both parties for navigation and safety
• To calculate earnings and billing based on trip time and location
• To display ratings and reviews
• To send trip-related notifications
• To improve the app using aggregate analytics data

Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

We share information with the following service providers who operate under their own privacy policies:

• Stripe — payment processing (stripe.com/privacy)
• Google Firebase — analytics and app infrastructure (firebase.google.com/support/privacy)
• Google Maps — in-app navigation and mapping (policies.google.com/privacy)
• Render — cloud hosting for our backend services

We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of users or third parties.

Data Retention

We retain trip records, ratings, and account data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data by emailing guides@magellanxadventures.com.

Children’s Privacy

MagellanX is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Security

We use industry-standard HTTPS encryption for all data transmission. Payment data is handled entirely by Stripe and never passes through our servers in raw form.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify users of material changes via the app or email.
